Which countertop material should I pick for my home?

Start with how the room gets used. Quartz suits a busy kitchen where nobody wants to seal anything. Granite and quartzite bring natural pattern and handle heat well, with a sealer on top. Marble fits a bath or a baking station if you like a surface that ages. Porcelain works outdoors and in full sun. Tell us about the room at the estimate and we will narrow it to two or three.

What separates natural stone from an engineered surface?

Granite, quartzite and marble are cut from quarried blocks, so no two slabs match and you pick the one you want. Quartz and porcelain are made in a factory, which keeps the pattern steady from slab to slab. Natural stone takes a penetrating sealer. Quartz needs none but dislikes high heat and direct sun. Porcelain shrugs off heat and sun but is hard to fix if it chips.

Which of these materials need a sealer?

Granite, quartzite and marble are porous to different degrees, so all three take a penetrating sealer. We apply sealer to granite and marble at install, and quartzite needs the same treatment. After that, resealing is a simple wipe on and wipe off job you can do at home. Quartz and porcelain are not porous and never need a sealer, only mild soap and water.

Can I see and touch the materials before I decide?

Yes. Samples come to the free in-home estimate, so you can hold granite, quartz, quartzite, marble and porcelain next to your own cabinets, floor and paint in your own light. That tells you more than a picture on a screen. For natural stone, the sample shows the family of colors, and you still choose the actual slab before we cut it.
